Ethereum users will be able to bind their addresses to the top-level domain
A new agreement in the near future will allow Ethereum users to bind their addresses to a top-level domain name, making it easier to remember identifiers associated with their wallets and third-party services, writes CoinDesk.
Ethereum Name Service (ENS), which allows users to replace long addresses with human-readable names attached to the .eth domain, entered into an agreement with the owner and operator of the top-level domains Minds + Machines Group (MMX).
MMX will soon launch and provide Ethereum users with the .luxe domain, which stands for “lets u xchange easily” (Russian – allows you to exchange easily).
MMX said that the new Ethereum project will give addresses “names that can be circulated on the Internet in the form familiar to emails and web traffic” and will allow users to engage in “traditional Internet activities” using links to their own and third-party wallets.
“We are delighted to facilitate the integration of the existing DNS name system into the Ethereum Name Service, thus enhancing the usability of blockchain applications, ”said ENS lead developer Nick Johnson.
MMX expressed confidence that a new opportunity for naming Ethereum addresses will be in demand and pointed to the success of ENS as a factor supporting this opinion.
“Testing the .eth zone has already shown that there is a real proven demand for word-based identifiers suitable for use on the blockchain,” said MMX CEO Toby Hall.
ENS service was launched in 2017 year and provides an “automated registry allowing anyone to register a domain name ending in .eth” through an auction. The foundation.eth and exchange.eth identifiers were purchased for $ 27,000 and $ 609,000, respectively.
MMX has yet to launch a new domain and plans to open a “limited registration period” in October when existing ENS users will be able to receive their ID equivalents on the .luxe domain. The full launch of the service is expected to take place on October 30.
